US Cellular pushes out OTA update to Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3

Samsung Galaxy S5US Cellular is pushing out OTA updates to the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Sadly its not the Android 5.0 Lollipop update everyone is waiting for. Instead all three handsets will remain on Android 4.4.2 after the update. But Samsung is pushing out a few incremental changes, notably for the dialer and camera apps.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4As usual expect the updates to roll out in stages, so it maybe a couple of days before it reaches all the customers. Users should should make sure they are running the stock version of Android before installing the update. You are also advised to ensure your battery is fully charged and that you are connected to Wi-Fi before updating your handsets. You can also check for the update manually by heading to Apps > Settings > System Updates.

According to the update notes, the Galaxy S5 will be updated to G900R4VXU1ANK1, while the Galaxy Note 4 will be updated to N910R4TYU1ANK5 and the Galaxy Note 3 will be updated to N900R4TYUCNG5. The update seems to focus on several Google-related apps and services.

  • Phone Dialer: The new phone app automatically prioritizes your contacts based on the people you talk to the most. You can also search for nearby places and businesses, your contacts, or people in your Google Apps domain.
  • Camera: Enhanced the "touch to focus" option with a new circular, on screen control that can be dragged by your finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo's focus and exposure.
  • Hangouts: With the new Hangouts app, all of your SMS and MMS messages are together in the same app, alongside your other conversations and video calls.
  • Just say "Ok Google": You don't need to touch the screen to get things done. When in Google Now, just say "Ok Google" to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song.
  • Emoji everywhere: Sometimes words can't express how you feel. For that, there's Emoji, the colorful Japanese characters, now available on Google Keyboard.
