OnePlus to unveil OxygenOS on February 12

OnePlus Oxygen

Earlier this month OnePlus released its own version of Android, which didn't involve CyanogenMod. After releasing a teaser of a periodic table yesterday, the company has revealed that it is ready to unveil OxygenOS. OnePlus promises that Android custom ROM will be "open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features."

The birth of OygenOS was a result of a strained relationship between OnePlus and its software provider Cyanogen, which decided to sign an exclusive deal with Indian manufacturer MicroMax. This caused issues for OnePlus to market its flagship smartphone in the Indian market, which yielded a strong fan base.

OxygenOS offers an alternative to CyanogenMod and will be optional installation for OnePlus One owners.  OnePlus originally held a contest to help decide the name of its new OS, and the winner could be flown to Shenzhen, China returning home with a 64GB Sandstone Black OnePlus One.

The inclusion of CyanogenMod was clearly one of the reasons the OnePlus One rose to fame, so we are curious to see how the popular smartphone manufacturer will fare without the veteran Android custom ROM.
