Meizu Blue Charm officially announced – high quality meets low price

China is known for its affordable Android smartphones, and Meizu is one of the rising brands trying to make a name for itself in the competitive smartphone market.. Its most recent entrant is the Meizu Blue Charm which brings a decent build quality and hardware at an affordable price.


The Meizu Blue Charm hopes to directly compete with devices like the Xiaomi Redmi (or Hongmi) which retails at just $100 off contract. The newly unveiled Blue Charm is priced slightly higher at 元699 ($112) but brings even more to the table.

The Meizu Blue Charm (aka Meizu M1) features a 5 inch 720p display, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 2610mAh battery and a 1.5GHz quad-core Cortex A53-based MediaTek MT6732 processor. On the software side you get Android 4.4 KitKat with the company’s Flyme 4 UI.

Thus the Blue Charm neatly fits into Meizu’s affordable device portfolio, which includes devices like the Meizu M1 Note (Blue Charm Note) priced at 元999 ($160). This phablet sized device comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p display, 13 megapixel camera and octa-core MT6752 processor.

The Meizu MX4 which costs 元1799 ($288) comes with a 5.36 inch display, a 20 megapixel camera and a more powerful octa-core MT6595 processor.

Then we have the Meizu MX4 Pro priced at 元2499 ($400), which is the company’s current flagship, featuring a metal build, a 5.5 inch Quad HD display, a 20 megapixel camera, Hi-Fi audio, a fingerprint scanner and an Exynos 5430 processor.

The Meizu Blue Charm is set to be released on February 5, but unfortunately, initial availability will be limited to China only. While the device will likely find its way into Western markets, expect a slightly marked up price from third-party re-sellers
