LG G Flex 2 officially announced with improved design and Snapdragon 810

The LG G Flex 2 was announced today at CES 2015 as the successor to the original LG G Flex. The new smartphone comes with an improved design, adding improved durability and an impressive upgrade in hardware.

LG has outfitted the new G Flex 2 with a powerful 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, making it the first device to feature this powerful Qualcomm processor when it is released. The handset also comes with the Adreno 430 GPU and will have 2GB with its 16GB model and 3GB with its 32GB model. Those who want more storage can add some through microSD and the G Flex 2 is capable of supporting as much as 2TB of microSD.

The LG G Flex 2 features a 5.5 inch 1080p P-OLED display, which is a notable improvement over the 6-inch 720p P-OLED display found in the first-gen model. Beyond improving the display’s resolution and bringing down the size, LG also promises 20% more durability when compared to the last-gen G Flex thanks to LG’s chemically enhanced DuraGuard technology. As for the curving abilities of the handset, the G Flex 2 improved beyond its predecessor’s 700mm radius curved profile by offering a range from 400 to 700mm across the front, back, sides and top-to-bottom edges.

The camera experience from the LG G3 flagship has been ported over to the G Flex 2. This includes the 13MP rear camera with OIS+ and laser focus, along with the 2.1MP front camera. It is important to note that LG promises slightly faster focusing and other minor improvements that should result in a great photographic experience.

While the back panel on the LG G Flex 2 can be removed, the 3000 mAh battery can not. The battery might be slightly smaller than the 3500 mAh found in the original G Flex but its too early to say how that will impact the overall battery life. The G Flex 2 also offers the fast charging technology allowing you to charge up to 50 percent in under 40 minutes.

On the software side you get Android 5.0 Lollipop, which has been treated with the same user interface which debuted on the LG G3. LG’s UI has the following features:

• Gesture Shot makes it easy to capture the perfect selfie with a simple hand gesture recognizable from up to 1.5 meters away.
• Gesture View makes it easy to check your last shot immediately after taking a photo or selfie.
• Glance View displays key information such as time, recent messages or missed calls with a downward swipe of the curved screen even while the display is off. This is LG’s latest evolution of its Knock On feature.

LG has not revealed the pricing of the LG G Flex 2 at this time, at it is not known of the new handset will follow the premium pricing of its predecessor. The LG G Flex 2 will be available starting at the end of the month in South Korea and will arrive to other markets like the United States sometime around mid-to-late February.
