Asus ZenFone 5 receives Android 9.0 Pie software update

Asus has just started rolling out the Android 9.0 Pie software update for its ZenFone 5. Customers can either wait for the OTA update to be pushed to their handsets or head over to the Asus website to manually download and install the file right now.

For those interested in manually installing the file, you can download it directly from Asus by following this link. The FOTA update is around 1.1GB in size, and you can install it by following these steps:
  • Move the downloaded file to the microSD card on your device;
  • Enter recovery mode on your device;
  • Select "apply updates from microSD";
  • Next, pick the zip file you just downloaded;
  • Confirm and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the download.
If you are not comfortable with manually installing the update, you should wait for Asus to push the OTA file directly to your device. You will receive a notification when the update arrives, and it is advised to have your battery fully charged, and connected to strong Wi-Fi before initiating the update process.

Asus in an official statement also said that the ZenFone 5z will receive the Android Pie update by the end of January, but did not have any information regarding the ZenFone 5 Lite.
