Google releases November Android security patch

Google is ready to roll out its November Security Path for Android and the first devices to receive the software patch include the first, second and third generation Pixel smartphones, along with some Nexus devices and the Essential Phone.

According to Google's security Bulletin, the update which is dated November 5, 2018, resolves 17 issues identified on Pixel devices including enhancements made to the picture-in-picture feature found with the Android 8.0 update. This allows users to watch video while multitasking with another app on the screen.

Additionally, the update now includes an Assistant Logo to the Google Search bar on the first and second general Pixel smartphones. Customers clicking on this logo will be taken to the Google Assistant immediately from the Home screen, a feature which was available by default on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The update also brings stability improvements to notifications.

The update will be pushed out to these devices OTA and you should receive a notification when it is available for your handset. You can try manually checking for the update by heading to Settings > System > Advanced > System update.
