OnePlus 6T officially announced - Powerful Hardware meets Affordable Price

OnePlus 6T officially announced

The OnePlus 6T was officially announced during a special event in New York with improved hardware, an updated design and an affordable price. The OnePlus 6T will also be the first from the company to launch through a US carrier.

Design

The new OnePlus 6T follows the modern trend of smartphone design with the use of metal and glass materials. The company has made use of Corning's Gorilla Glass 6 to protect its glass panels from scratches and accidental damage.

The front is mostly occupied by a large display with a small notch on the top housing the front-facing camera and earpiece. OnePlus has also built a fingerprint scanner into the display, and claims it can unlock your device in a third of a second.

On its rear, the device houses a dual-camera setup and LED flash above the OnePlus logo.

OnePlus has retained an alert slider on the side of the device, which lets you quickly set your device on vibrate or mute. The updated design does come at a cost of the 3.5mm headphone jack, which no longer can be found on the OnePlus 6T.

Customers will be able to purchase the OnePlus 6T in matte or glossy black.

Display

The OnePlus 6T features a 6.41 inch display with a somewhat modest 2340 by 1080 pixel resolution. By retaining the resolution from their previous model, OnePlus will be able to keep the smooth performance than OnePlus smartphones are known for.

Fingerprint Scanner

The OnePlus 6T features an optical scanner built into the display to read your fingerprints. It does this by illuminating your finger as it is read. While this is the same technology featured in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the OnePlus 6T will be the first phone to launch with this functionality.

Customers will be able to use the scanner for unlocking the device as usual, and for Google Pay transactions.

Camera

The newest smartphone from OnePlus packs a dual-camera setup on the rear made up of 16 megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, and 20 megapixel secondary camera. The setup features OIS and EIS to stabilize your photos and is capable of capturing 4K video at 60fps. You also have a single 16-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

OnePlus 6T - Camera

One of the new features of the OnePlus 6T camera is 'Nightscape' - an advanced HDR night mode than uses visual information from several frames to enhance detail while reducing noise and motion blur. According to OnePlus, Nightscape photos take longer to capture than regular photos, but the outcome seems well worth it. Nightscape will be coming to the OnePlus 6 in a week.

The OnePlus 6T also introduces a new Studio Lighting feature for portrait photos. When your camera detects a face on the frame, you will be able to adjust the luminosity of that arena. Studio Lightning is available on both the main and the front-facing camera.

Hardware

The OnePlus 6T packs the powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm. The handset will be offered with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. Since there is no microSD expansion, customers will have to pick the model that best suits their needs.

The handset packs a 3700mAh battery this time around, which happens to be the biggest on a OnePlus phone. OnePlus promises a 23% increase in overall battery life. You get Fast Charging as usual, and OnePlus packs a charger that gets your device charging at 5 volts up to 4amps. Wireless charging isn't available.

Software

The OnePlus 6T will launch will Android 9.0 Pie based OxygenOS. The developers behind OxygenOS have worked hard to ensure a smooth, clean and bloat free end user experience.

With OxygenOS, customers will be able to pick between a modern gesture based interface or switch back to the on-screen button interface based on their preference. OnePlus has introduced a special gaming mode which pre-loads apps to the RAM to improve performance, a Reading Mode that offers crisp clear content even outdoors and various enhancements to the stock Android Pie experience.
