Nokia 3.1 Plus announced with 6-inch display, dual rear cameras and affordable price

After unveiling the Nokia 7.1 alongside the  Nokia True Wireless earbuds and  Nokia Pro Wireless earphones last week, HMD Global has unveiled the large yet ultra affordable Nokia 3.1 Plus as the newest member of its Android smartphone lineup.

Design

The Nokia 3.1 Plus is a large device with a 6-inch display with a notchless design. The device has an aluminum finish and will be available in three colors (blue, white and 'baltic'). You get a dual rear camera setup on the back of the device accompanied by a fingerprint sensor between the camera and Nokia logos.

The handset is tall instead of wide, adopting a 2:1 aspect ratio and symmetrical thin bezels for a budget friendly handset.

Display

The Nokia 3.1 Plus features a 6.0 inch 2.5D LCD display with a 720 by 1440 pixel resolution. While the resulting 268ppi pixel density isn't too impressive, its still a decent offering for an affordable smartphone of this size.


Camera

The handset comes with a dual cameras on the rear - A primary 13 megapixel phase detection autofocus camera coupled with a 5 megapixel depth sensor. The latter allows the camera to capture portrait photos with blurred backgrounds and assists accurate focus in low light.

A secondary 8 megapixel wide-angle camera is available for video calling and to "fit more in your selfies".

Hardware

The Nokia 3.1 Plus has been outfitted with a MediaTek MT6750 processor, which helps keep its price low. You also get a 16GB storage odel with 2GB of RAM, while the 32GB model comes with 3GB.

You get microSD for storage expansion even if you go with the entry level model. You also get a 3.5mm headphone jack. HMD Global has opted for a micro USB port here, but that isn't a deal breaker in our opinion.

The handset is outfitted with a decent 3500mAh battery, which should easily give it a day of battery life. You even get NFC, allowing the device to be used with Google Pay.

Software

The Nokia 3.1 Plus comes with Android Oreo pre-installed and is part of the Android One family. What this means for the device is that it will be "pure, secure and up-to-date", so we expect Android Pie is likely headed to this handset.

Pricing and Availability

The Nokia 3.1 Plus is set to arrive in India on October 19, and will be priced at a very reasonable Rs. 11,499 (around $155). This model will come with 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM as we mentioned above, and can be picked up in blue, white or grey (baltic). 

While there is no news on its availability in the US, we hope it will find its way to Western markets eventually.
