Apple macOS 10.14 Mojave now available for download

The final version of Apple's macOS 10.14 Mojave is now available for download for free through the Mac App Store, as long as you have a compatible Mac. Once you have downloaded the update, click on the install button to begin installing from there and allow the update to go through its process.

What's new in macOS 10.14 Mojave

First of all, it has the wonderful new Dark Mode which you can activate once the setup is complete. Next, you have a Dynamic Desktop which changes based on the time of day, the brand new Stacks feature has a new way of organizing your desktop, while an improved Siri experience lets you control you Mac better than ever before. You also get an improved Finder, new iOS apps on Mac, an updated tool for screenshots and screen capture,  and an updated Photos app with the ability to markup and annotate documents without ever having to actually fully open them.

How to Install macOS 10.14 Mojave

As we mentioned above, macOS 10.14 Mojave is available as update to compatible devices through the Mac App Store. Simply open the App Store and you will receive a prompt suggesting to install the update. Download the update, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the update on your Mac.

How to clean install macOS 10.14 Mojave

If you want to start from scratch and have a clean installation of Mojave, it will take a little extra work.

Requirement

• Make sure that all important data and any files or documents are backed up before you proceed. This process will delete all personal files and install a fresh copy of the operating system. You can check our guide to backup your mac if you need any help.
• Mac sure you are installing the macOS 10.14 Mojave on a compatible Mac. The installation will fail if your Mac is not supported and you will have to revert to your older version of macOS. Scroll down for a list of supported Macs.

Once you have met the above requirements follow the steps below to perform a clean installation of macOS

Step 1) Download macOS Mojave 10.14 from the Mac App Store. This will give you the installer file that you require. Once the installer has downloaded it will attempt to start installation. Make sure you quit out of it.

Step 2) You now need to create a bootable USB will the installer file. You can check out our guide on how to create a bootable macOS USB installer if you need help.

Step 3) Make sure the Mac is turned off and the USB drive is connected to one of its USB ports. Turn the Mac on and make sure that you have the Option key pressed during the boot process. You will be taken into a new menu that asks you where you want to boot from so make sure that you select the inserted USB drive.

Step 4) The computer first run some checks. Once completed, you will be given the macOS Utilities menu. Select the Disk Utility option and select Continue.

Step 5) Select your primary Mac hard drive from the menu on the left-hand side and then select the Erase button at the top of the interface. Keep the name of the hard drive as "Macintosh HD" and ensure that the Format drop-down is selected as either "APFS (Encrypted)" (if you have a modern Mac with faster SSD) or "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" if you have a older Mac with mechanical hard drive. Hit the Erase button to proceed, but be aware that this will erase all content on the machine.

Step 6) Congratulation, you have now erased everything off your Mac and you have no active operating system. You will be taken back to the previous macOS Utilities menu. Select Install macOS and then Continue.

Step 7) You will be taken through the installation process. Select the Macintosh HD you formatted above, and accept the terms of the installation. Select install to continue through the process.

Once the installation is complete you will be running a fresh copy of macOS Mojave. You can now connect your Time Machine backup (when prompted) to restore your Settings and files.

Is my Mac compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave

Apple considered Mojave a major update to their desktop platform, and have discontinued support for several older Macs compared to High Sierra. The following list of Macs are still compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave

• MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
• MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
• Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
• iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
• iMac Pro (2017)
• Mac Pro (Late 2013, plus mid 2010 and mid 2012 models with recommend Metal-capable GPU)
