Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is the company's first Android Go phone

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core was just announced as the company's first Android Go smartphone. This device is meant for users on a budget, aiming to offer an entry-level Android solution at an affordable price.

The Galaxy J2 Core specs include a 5 inch TFT display with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, 8GB of internal storage, a 2600mAh battery, and a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 7570 processor with 1GB of RAM.

Android Go, in this case, is a stripped down version of Android Oreo, which includes light versions of apps and services like YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail which have been optimized for the entry-level hardware.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy J2 Core will be launched in Malaysia and India starting today. Pricing and specific availability details have not yet been shared, but the handset is expected to be priced below $100. With the handset being aimed at entry level markets, there is no word on a possible launch of the Galaxy J2 Core in the US.
