Huawei Kirin 710 processor announced for mid-range smartphones

Huawei Kirin 710 processor announced

Huawei has announced a new mobile processor - the Kirin 710, which is aimed at mid-range handsets and hopes to compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710.

Unlike Qualcomm who uses the 10nm process for its Snapdragon 710, Huawei uses the the older 12nm manufacturing technology. This means that the Kirin 710 is slightly bigger than the Snapdragon 710.

According to Huawei, the Kirin 710's performance is 75% higher than that of the previous generation, the Kirin 659, whereas multi-core performance is 68% higher. The Kirin 710 is an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A73 running at 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 running at 1.7GHz.

In terms of graphics, the Kirin 710 chipset includes an ARM Mali G6 GPU (graphics processing unit) which should be 1.3 times faster than the Kirin 659 chip, and more energy efficient. The chip features LTE Cat.12 and 13, as well as dual-SIM and dual 4G LTE support.
