Nokia updates worldwide map data on HERE Maps for iOS, Android and Windows

Today Nokia announced an important worldwide update to offline maps for HERE services on Android, iOS and Windows platforms. The updated maps data includes millions of changes and improvements across the globe, in every corner of every country.

You will be notified on Android and iOS when the update is ready to be installed. Once you receive the notification, simply follow the on-screen steps to get the latest maps on your handset. You will need to restart the app in order to see the new changes on the map

Windows Phone users will have to go to the settings app on your phone, then tap the applications tab > maps > check for updates. Click on the maps to update and a minute later, you're done. On some devices, the map updates are performed through the app itself, so check there if you don't see the settings we described.

While the entire number of changes are too numerous and too specific to list separately, the HERE team has listed some new additions and features that deserve a special mention.

Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe has now much more detailed maps, and allow for navigation within the apps, and show a much fuller road network and land usage details.



HERE team has also improved the detail shown in Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau and the Seychelles. And all these countries and those above are now also available for offline use as downloadable maps under ‘Africa’.

Public Transit gets in line:

Update offline maps now includes improved representation of public transit lines (train, subway and tram lines) in the Americas, in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Business Case:

The update also includes improvement for Enterprise users of HERE mapping services. In this update, there’s a particular upgrade for logistics companies. Nokia made it possible for the truck attributes of roads to be seen in offline apps. (These are properties like weight or height restrictions, legal restrictions and hazardous material bans).
