Microsoft introduces Windows Hello - A biometric authentication system for Windows 10 devices

Microsoft has just introduced Windows Hello, a biometric authentication system for its upcoming Windows 10 operating system. Windows Hello will allow you to sign into a Windows 10 machine using just your face, iris, or fingerprint. This biometric technology is much safer than traditional passwords.

Passwords are currently our main source of security on most of our devices. But Microsoft feels the are inconvenient and insecure. Because we want our passwords to be easy to remember, they become an easy target for hackers. In order to be truly secure we have to remember dozens of complex passwords to login to your various devices and services.

Windows Hello plans to use technology that is much safer than traditional passwords. It combines the user with the device they are using as a key to your Windows experience, apps, data and even websites and services. For example, a device with a fingerprint reader can use your fingerprint to authenticate you as the owner. For facial or iris detection, Windows Hello uses a combination of special hardware and software to accurately verify it is you – not a picture of you or someone trying to impersonate you. The cameras use infrared technology to identify your face or iris and can recognize you in a variety of lighting conditions.
