Gionee Elife S7 officially announced with a 5.5mm thin frame and two-day battery life

Gionee Elife S7

Smartphone manufacturer Gionee is known for holding the record for the slimmest smartphone in the world with the Gionee Elife S5.5 and, later, the Gionee Elife S5.1. Now they have announced another ultra-slim smartphone at MWC 2015 known as the Gionee Elife S7.

However, the manufacturer doesnt seem to be chasing the thinnest smartphone crown anymore. Gionee's head of global marketing, Oliver Sha, stated that: "The race to make the slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up."

The Gionee Elife S5.1, for instance, is 5.15 mm thin and was replaced by the Oppo R5 as "slimmest of them all"  with its 4.85 mm thin body in November. Later, the Vivo X5 Max took the throne, with its 4.8 mm profile, and now the 4.7mm Coolpad lvvi K1 Mini has taken the throne.

The Gionee Elife S7 is still reasonably thin at 5.5 mm, which maybe the company's optimal size for slimness. The handset features a 5.2 inch 1080p AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera without any protrusion, an 8MP front facing camera, and a 4-bit octa-core MediaTek 6752 processor with 2GB of RAM.

The only "weakness" this device may face is with its 2750 mAh battery, which is smaller than what one would expect from a modern flagship. However, packing anything more into such a thin casing may not be possible in any case. Gionee however has worked on various other methods to help preserve battery life. For example, the smartphone's display is 25% more frugal than previous generations, and a Dark theme is supplied for another 30% drop in power consumption from the panel. Additionally the Sensor Hub, supplied by Freescale, optimizes CPU usage, so your battery lasts long. In fact Gionee promises the Elife S7 lasts two full days on a charge, which, is usually unimaginable on such a thin and elegant handset.

The Gionee Elife S7 will be released as soon as March 18th in Macau, then in India on April 3, and  eventually around the world, all for 400 EUR or USD, depending on the region. You also get a model  with dual SIM capabilities if you need that feature. The handset will be offered in three distinct color - Los Angeles Black, North Pole White and Maldives Blue.
