Samsung Galaxy S4 receives Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung Galaxy S4A couple of days ago, we reported that the Galaxy Note 3 was receiving the Lollipop update in Russia. Now it turns out that the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Russia (GT-I9500) is also receiving the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Android 5.0.1 LollipopThe update brings Android 5.0.1 and is a hefty 1049MB in size. It brings several new features and improvements to the handset, including a Material Design makeover for several of the core apps.

The update is being sent over the air (OTA), and, you will receive a notification when it is available for your device. Due to the size of the update, it is advised that you have your battery fully charged and that you are connected to Wi-Fi. For now, it doesn't appear to be available via Samsung Kies.

Now that the Galaxy S4 in Russia is receiving the update, it shouldn't be long before the Lollipop update starts rolling out to the Galaxy S4 in other regions. As usual, the exact timing depends on market and carriers, with the unlocked handsets first in line for the update, followed by the carrier branded models.
