Google launches Android One handsets in Indonesia with Android 5.1 Lollipop

Google has continued its expansion of its Android One program. After bringing the affordable devices to new Asian markets, Google is now bringing Android One to Indonesia. What's interesting is that the new phones are running Android 5.1 Lollipop

Android One is an effort to bring affordable, Android-powered handsets to developing markets, as Google partners up with local retailers and helps them build a phone that are affordable by local standard, yet capable of providing a decent performance.

Indonesia has become the most recent recipient of Android One devices and there are three new handsets up for grabs - the Evercross One X, Mito Impact and the Nexian Journey. All three feature the same hardware, including a 4.5 inch display with a 480 x 854 pixel resolution, 8GB of internal storage with microSD, a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, dual SIM, a 1700mAh battery and a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 processor with 1GB of RAM.

What's interesting about these new handsets is that they are running Android 5.1. The update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to bring "General improvements in system stability, Improved RAM management, Fixes for sudden app closures, Improved battery management, Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed, Issues with wireless connections fixed, Problems with Okay Google function solved, Notifications problems solved, Some sound problems experienced by certain devices fixed and Other improvements and changes."

Google has still to make the update official and has not posted a changelist of its features. What's more, it looks like Google will follow its trend with Jelly Bean (Android 4.1, 4.2, 4.3) and Eclair (Android 2.0, 2.1) and keep the Lollipop name.
