Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 officially announced for $1199

The Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 was officially announced at CES 2015, once again breathing life to a dying brand. While the hardware itself maybe somewhat modest, the device has been priced at $1199 positioning it at the very top of the price spectrum.

So what has Sony actually included in the ZX2 to warrant such a high price? You get an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean device which features a 4 inch display with a 480 x 854 pixel resolution, 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, and familiar connectivity options such as NFC and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. Its true power lies in its battery, which boasts up to 60 hours of MP3 (128kbps) music playback or 33 hours of FLAC (192KHz/24bit). Unfortunately the exact capacity (along with other key specs, like the processor and RAM) aren’t mentioned. Sony has however mentioned that you need 4.5 hours to charge the battery from zero to full.

Despite the large battery, the NW-ZX2 is clearly meant at a niche audience, who want to continue supporting the Walkman brand. Audiophiles will enjoy perks like hi-res audio playback, one-touch listening via NFC and Bluetooth, and supports a plethora of formats (the full list of which is available in the press release at the bottom). With with a 235 g (8.28 oz) weight and the above mentioned specs, most users would prefer using their mobile devices to enjoy their tunes.
