Microsoft schedules Windows 10 event on January 21

Microsoft has scheduled a special Windows 10 event in Redmond on January 21, and has started mailing out invites to members of the press today. The event is described as "the next chapter" and will likely focus on the consumer features in the upcoming update.

Microsoft is expected to unveil Windows 10 for phones and tablets, while detailing the Continuum feature, which allows users to seamlessly transition between desktop and touch modes.

Windows 10 was first unveiled in September, but the unveiling was focussed on enterprise customers. The January event is expected to be more significant, with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in attendance, alongside Windows chief Terry Myerson, Xbox head Phil Spencer, and Joe Belfiore, who looks after the phone, tablet, and PC experience of Windows.

Given the number of Microsoft executives in attendance and the fact the company is live-streaming the event, it's likely we'll get a good look at how Windows 10 will work across PCs, phones, tablets, and the Xbox One. Be sure to stay tuned for our live coverage.
