Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus officially announced

The Sony Xperia X10 and Xperia X10 Plus are two new smartphones by the company in its upper-mid-range line. With higher specs than regular mid-range phones and positioned below the Sony Xperia 1, these two smartphones are meant to bring Sony's premium innovations to the masses.

Just like its flagship, both handsets feature the new 21:9 aspect ratios with edge-to-edge displays in a thin and slender form factor. The Xperia 10 has a 6.0-inch display, while the Xperia 10 Plus has a 6.5-inch panel, while both offer a FullHD+ resolution.

Cameras

The Xperia 10 features a dual camera setup on the rear consisting of a 13MP primary sensor, and a 5MP camera accompanying it.

The Xperia X10 Plus also has a dual camera setup consisting of a 12MP primary wide-angle sensor and an 8MP telephoto sensor. The camera also has 2x optical zoom for still photos.

Both handsets have an 8MP camera in front which features SteadyShot, which should enable users to capture blur-free videos, even while in motion. You even get the Bokeh effect to blur the background.

Audio

The Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus make use of Sony's advanced technology called LDAC, which is supposed to make music sound crystal clear even if you're listening wirelessly. Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine, allows all compressed files are upscaled to near high-resolution sound quality.

Hardware

The Xperia X10 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset and packs a 2870mAh battery

The Xperia X10 Plus is powered by a slightly more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 and packs a slightly larger 3000mAh battery.

Software

Both handsets run Android 9.0 Pie with Sony's own software customizations. Among its unique features is the Side Sense panel which offers the option to split your screen with a long press on the icon. This split screen allows users to select both apps that you want to display, like watching videos while texting.

Release and Availability

Both the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus will be available in Navy, Black and Silver. The Xperia 10 will have an additional Pink color, while the larger Xperia 10 Plus will include a Gold color option.





While pricing is yet to be revealed, the handsets will be available in select markets from February 25, in both single SIM and dual SIM variants.





Accessories

Alongside these new smartphones, Sony also revealed a brand new open-ear Bluetooth stereo headset, the SBH82D, which comes in Black, Grey, and Blue. Sony claims that the new wireless behind-the-neck earphones apply the same inner structure to Xperia Ear Duo that allows users to listen to their favorite music while being able to hear the surroundings.




The SBH82D earphones include voice assistant functions from both Google Assistant and Apple Siri, but also hands-free talks. The earphones will be available in select markets from May 2019 for a price that will be announced closer to launch.

Sony also announced the Style Cover Stand (SCSI10), a two-in-one cover and phone stand for either the Xperia 10 or 10 Plus.





There's also the Style Cover Solid (SCBI10), which is only available for the Xperia 10 and should help protect it from damage thanks to its military spec durability.
