Nokia 5 receives Android 9 Pie software update

The modest Nokia 5 which was originally released in 2017 with Android Nougat is now being updated to Android 9.0 Pie. Back in August, Nokia promised to bring the newest version of Android to its entire portfolio and has kept that promise alive so far with several of its handsets being updated to Android Pie.

HMD Global's Cheif Product Officer, Joho Sarvikas announced the update on Twitter:

Interestingly the Nokia 5 was released before the company unveiled its Android One handsets. Android One technically should be updated to newer versions of Android before its regular counterparts. However, HMD Global has still to release Android Pie for the newer Android One based Nokia 5.1.

In any case, HMD Global wants to complete its Android Pie updates by June 2019. This leaves the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 3.1 Plus and Nokia 6 a short window to make the jump to the newer version of Android.
