Samsung Galaxy A8s announced as first with Infinity-O display design

The Samsung Galaxy A8s has been announced as the first from the company to feature its Infinity-O display. What this means is that the Galaxy A8s has its front-facing camera pierced directly into the display.

Design

The Galaxy A8s comes with an extremely slim bezel, with the front mostly made up of the phone's display. There is a slight chin at the bottom, and the hole in the top left housing the front-facing camera. To accommodate the camera, the notification and other icons have been moved to the center of the status bar.

Display

The handset features a 6.4-inch display, but Samsung has used an LCD panel here instead of the Super AMOLED display panels they are known for. You get a 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution and a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio.

Camera

On the rear, Samsung has outfitted this device with a triple camera setup made up of a 24MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture lens, a 10MP telephoto sensor for 2x "optical" zoom and a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture lens, for depth-sensing.

On the front, the Galaxy A8s has a generous 24MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture.

Hardware

Samsung has outfitted the Galaxy A8s with 128GB of storage which can expand by an additional 512GB using microSD. You get Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 chipset powering the device with 6GB/8GB RAM options based on your need. Additionally, the phone has a 3400mAh battery with adaptive fast charging support over USB-C.

Software

In terms of software, we find that the Galaxy A8s will run Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung's Experience 9 UI on top.

Release, Price, and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy A8s will be a China-exclusive smartphone for now and will be available in Blue, Gray, and Green which appear to be gradient colors. Customers will be able to pre-order the device starting December 12 and it will be released on December 21 after the pre-order period ends.

The pricing has not been revealed at this point, but we can guess it will be classed as an upper-mid-range device based on its specifications and Infinity-O display.
