OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T receive first Android Pie-based open beta builds

OnePlus was one of the first companies to roll out the Android 9 Pie update to its Oneplus 6, and now it looks like they are getting ready to bring the latest version of Android to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T in the form of beta builds.

Currently, OnePlus has released the first international Open Beta build of Android 9.0 for both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, signaling that the company is in the last stages of fine-tuning the update before it is ready for mass consumption.

The Android Pie-based OxygenOS is based on Open Beta 22 for the OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 20 for the OnePlus 5T. Both handsets will be getting a massive number of improvements, including a “brand new” user interface and “brand new” navigation gestures (only for the 5T).

There’s a new Do Not Disturb mode in the pipeline with adjustable settings, various “optimizations for background app process handling”, a few bug fixes and specific enhancements for the Communication and Weather apps, and the November Android security patch.

Keep in mind that any consumers who want to try out this beta build will have to migrate to the beta channel to receive the update, and you will no longer receive stable OTA updates once you do. Once the beta test has concluded, you will have to switch back to the stable channel if you want to receive the final version of Android 9 Pie.

Customers who participate in the beta will also have the opportunity to share their feedback and shape the final build of Android on your OnePlus smartphones. The Feedback tool is now neatly integrated into your Community app.
