Apple iOS 12.1.2 released with improvements to eSIM and cellular connectivity

After a short beta period, Apple has released iOS 12.1.2, a minor update to the mobile platform that aims to exterminate some bugs for iPhone users. Alongside these improvements, Apple has also taken the opportunity to ensure that all relevant devices receive the relevant update via iOS 12.1.2 to comply with a Chinese court ruling that Apple’s Chinese iPhones infringe on a number of patents held by Qualcomm Inc.

According to the official changelog, the update takes fixes an issue that prevented some users from activating the eSIM inside their iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or iPhone XR. Once activated, the embedded eSIM can be used alongside the regular SIM card providing dual-SIM functionality for these models. This, in turn, lets the user have two separate lines on their iPhone.

The changelog also mentions a fix for an issue that prevented an unknown number of 2018 iPhone owners in Turkey from connecting to their wireless provider. After the iOS 12.1.1 release, it was reported that several iPhone users faced limited or no cellular connectivity on their devices. This could mean that Apple identified that as a location-based issue and fixed it in iOS 12.1.2.

The iOS 12.1.2 update will be pushed out to all compatible handsets OTA (over-the-air) and you should receive an alert when it is available for your device. You can also try manually checking for the update on your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > General > Software update.

The update would vary in size depending on your device, and it is recommended that your battery is fully charged and that you are connected to Wi-Fi before initiating the update.
