Playground for Android is now available on the Google Play Store. Formally known as AR Stickers, this app allowed you to add augmented reality stickers onto a photo using your camera on your compatible smartphone.
With the relaunching of the app as Playground, all stickers are now called Playmoji. Also, in addition to the already existing stickers, Google launched four new packs called Pets, Signs, Sports, and Weather.
Playground for Android is currently only compatible with the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL and will be available as a new Pixel camera mode. According to Google, the app will eventually support the first and second generation Pixel smartphones as well.
Playground for Android was demonstrated during Made by Google event, and allows users to add realistic augmented reality characters (Playmoji) to your photos captured from your Pixel camera. These characters will react with each other and with the subject of the photo. Playground will even try and make suggestions for relevant stickers by analysing the photo.
You can even use Playground in selfie mode by standing next to characters you love, like Iron Man or the Hulk from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Google promises a special pack which features Donald Glover's Childish Gambino will be available at a later time.
