Nokia 7.1 officially announced


The Nokia 7.1 was unveiled today, during a special event that took place in London. HMD Global's newest mid-range Android One flagship boasts a set of hardware and software features usually not associated with the 'mid-range' category.

Design

The Nokia 7.1 will be available in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel and its glass panels will be protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The infamous notch can be seen on the top of the handset and a fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the device.

Display

The handset has a 5.84 inch display is HDR10-compliant, and while it is an LCD panel, Nokia says the display can potentially really bright and be perfectly legible even under the exceptional brightness of broad daylight. Additionally, the display of the Nokia 7.1 is said to be automatically calibrating its overall tone in compliance with the environmental lighting conditions. The device also offers real-time SDR to HDR conversion of all user content.

Camera

The Nokia 7.1 features a dual camera setup on the rear. The main 12MP camera has an f/1.8 aperture, while the secondary 5MP monochrome camera is used for depth information. On the front you will find an 8MP camera that let you apply playful filters and masks to your face in real time. Nokia is also bringing it feature called "Bothies" which lets you combine photos from both front and rear cameras.


Hardware

The handset will be offered with 32GB or 64GB of internal e-MMC 5.1 storage, with optional microSD storage available if needed. Nokia has outfitted the device with a USB Type C, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3060mAh battery. The handset is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset with 3GB or 4GB of RAM based on the model you choose. The Nokia 7.1 offers fast-charging which lets you charge your battery to 50% in around 30 minutes. Customers will also be able to select between a single SIM and dual SIM model.

Software

On the software end, the Nokia 7.1 runs a stock variant of Android. This Android One experience is similar to what Google offers its Pixel devices and allows Nokia to deliver timely software updates to the device for up to three years.

Availability

The Nokia 7.1 has a starting price of $349 in the United States and will be available through online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and B&H. It can be pre-ordered starting October 5, 2018 and will begin shipping on October 28, 2018. In-store purchasing and demonstration displays will also be available in select Best Buy stores starting November 4, 2018.
