Nokia 6.1 receives Android 9 Pie software update

The Nokia 6.1, which was originally released in May last year with Android 8.1 Oreo is now receiving the Android 9 Pie software update. The news was shared on Twitter by HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas.

This makes the Nokia 6.1 the second device in the company's lineup to receive the latest version of Android, which brings features like App Actions, Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, Slices and a new way to navigate your system.

Since such updates are released in waves, it may be a while before the update is available for your device. Once you receive the update notification, make sure your device is fully charged and you are connected to a strong WiFi connection before you initiate the update.

While HMD Global has since announced its successor in the form of the Nokia 7.1, the Nokia 6.1 is still a decent mid-ranger. It features a 5.5-inch display 1080p IPS display, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 16 MP Zeiss branded camera, a fingerprint reader, an 8 MP front camera, a 3000mAh battery and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor with 4GB of RAM.

You can purchase this GSM handset in the US from various online retailers including Amazon, BestBuy, and B&H for around $230.
