LG V40 THINQ officially announced

The LG V40 THINQ has been officially announced, and just like every V-series device before it, blends powerful hardware with elegant looks. It features a total of five cameras: three in the back and two in front.

DESIGN

The LG V40 is made up of metal and glass, with IP68 water-resistance and the promise of military-grade drop protection. The handset will be made available in black and blue. There is a dedicated button which triggers Google Assistant on the left, while the power button can be found on the right side of the device A fingerprint scanner can be found on the rear below the three cameras.

Display

The LG V40 features a 6.4 inch P-OLED display with a 1440 by 3120 pixel resolution. This results in a 19.5 to 9 aspect ratio and a 537 ppi pixel density.

There is a notch on the top of the display housing the earpiece and two front facing cameras. While information is displayed on either side of the notch, those who don't like seeing it can disable it by setting a black background to that screen area around the notch.

Camera

At the back of the LG V40 you have a total of three separate cameras - The main 12MP camera has OIS, an F1.5 aperture and a 1.4-micron pixel sensor. The second 12MP telephoto camera which offers 2x zoom, while the third one has a 16MP 107-degree wide-angle camera.

This combination makes the LG V40 one of the most versatile camera phones, and should offer images from a much broader perspective. The camera setup is capable of capturing 60 frames per second.

On the front you have an 8MP camera working with a 5MP wide-angle camera to fit in more people on your next selfie.

Hardware

The LG V40 ThinQ is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. You have 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD and 6GB of RAM.

The handset packs a 3300mAh battery which should get by during an average work day on a single charge. LG has also included a fast charger in the box, and Fast wireless charging is also supported by this handset if you have a compatible charging pad.

LG has also included their Boombox Speaker technology which they debuted on the LG G7. It is now also present on the LG V40 to boost its low-frequency output – and more dramatically so when the phone is resting on a flat surface. This is acheived by using the phone's internal volume as a resonance chamber which gives certain frequencies a welcome boost.

LG has even retained the 3.5mm headphone jack and paired it with their 32-bit Quad DAC, capable of driving audiophile-grade, high-impedance headphones with ease.


SOFTWARE

The LG V40 ThinQ comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, and should eventually be updated to Android 9 Pie. LG offers their own software experience over Android with a few customizations like the Floating Bar shortcut panel.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The LG V40 will be launched on October 18 across the five top carriers in the US. The phone is quite pricey though it various across the carriers.
