Google Photos updated with live albums, depth editing and Top Shot

Google Photos has been updated with a new featured called Live Albums. This allows users to turn any album into a live album by choosing the people or pets they want to see in that album and have Google automatically scan and add the subjects to it.

You can share these Live Albums with your family and friends. While viewing them, you can say "Hey Google, show me pictures from Chicago" and have these pictures included in the live album. 

The updated version of Google Photos will be available on Android, iOS and the web. It has started rolling out now in a number of countries and should reach your device within a couple of days.

Another new feature in the updated Google Photos is depth editing, which lets users adjust the background blur, and even change the focus of the portrait photos. Also, the depth editor enables users to make the subject of their photo pop by leaving them in color while changing the background to black and white. This new editing feature will be available on both the third generation Pixel smartphones along with other compatible devices like the Pixel 2 and Motorola phones such as the Moto G6.

The update also adds the Top Shot functionality to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Top Shot automatically captures alternate shots in HDR+, then recommends the best one, but you'll be able to see these recommendations in the Google Photos app and save the one you want.
