LG G5 for T-Mobile receives Android 8.0 update

The LG G5 for T-Mobile is now receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo software update. The new software is being pushed out to the device over-the-air (OTA) and it brings the August Android security patch along with the new version of Android.

LG recently started pushing the update out to G5 units in Korea, signalling that an international rollout was around the corner. With Android Oreo, your LG G5 will be gaining features like picture-in-picture, allowing users to watch video even when interacting with another app in the background. Notification dots appear on an app's icon to alert you to an unread notification, and you will be able to snooze notifications. Additionally you get a streamlined Settings menu and a step-up in battery optimization.

Once you receive the notification of the update's availability, it is recommended that you are connected to a Wi-Fi signal and have your battery fully charged before starting the process of installing the update. While the update is being installed, do not turn off your phone. Since these updates are usually sent out in waves, you may not receive it for a few days, which is normal. You can try manually checking for the update on your device by going to Settings > System updates > Check for new system update.

The LG G5 was launched back in March 2016 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It was subsequently updated to Android 7.0 Nougat and is now in line for what maybe its last major update in Android 8.0 Oreo. The handset features a 5.3 inch display, 32GB of internal storage, dual (16MP+8MP) rear cameras, an 8MP front camera, a 2800mAh battery and a Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM.
