Huawei announces EMUI 9 based on Android Pie

Huawei has announced EMUI 9, its latest version of Android based on Android 9.0 Pie. The final version of EMUI 9 is expected to launch on the Huawei Mate 20 next month, but a beta version has currently been made available for select Huawei and Honor devices.

As of now, the EMUI 9 beta is available for the following handsets

HUAWEI
  • Huawei Mate 10
  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P20
  • Huawei P20 Pro
HONOR
  • Honor 10
  • Honor View 10
  • Honor Play

In order to install the beta on your compatible Huawei or Honor device, go to Huawei's Friendly User Test page and click on the Download button to install the beta app. Once you accept the Terms of Service, open an account and go to Personal > Join project. Select EMUI 9 beta program and click on sign up.

Keep in mind that this is a beta pre-release software and several features could be buggy or not function as intended. If you are willing to test it out, make sure you provide Huawei with feedback to find tune their software for final release.

With Android 9 Pie include gesture controls, Google's new digital wellbeing initiative, the AI-based Adaptive Battery and Adaptive brightness features, Slices and more.

Changes in EMUI 9 include a new password manager that auto-fills passwords using ID verification from the fingerprint scanner or via facial recognition. The number of items in the settings menu are reduced by nearly 100 to 843, and new gesture controls will help users quickly navigate, multitask and open the AI assistant.

GPU Turbo 2.0 reduces the touch response (or latency) by 36% and adds a new app assistant. Four more games will be supported by the feature: Vainglory, Arena of Valor, Rules of Survival, and NBA 2K18. The four join PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang as carrying support for the second generation version of GPU Turbo.
