Apple iOS 12.1 Beta 1 released

Apple has released iOS 12.1 Beta 1 to developers registered in the company's beta program. After iOS 12 was recently released to the public, the new beta will likely aim to fix any bugs and issues Apple has discovered. However, it looks like some new features are also headed to iOS users.

The biggest addition to iOS 12.1 is Group Facetime with support for up to 32 people. This functionality was first announced during WWDC and set to be released on iOS 12. However the functionality was removed in early beta releases, and promised during a future iOS release. While it hasn't been confirmed that the final iOS 12.1 will see the debut of Group Facetime, we hope it will.

Another feature discovered in iOS 12.1 is support for eSIM and Dual-SIM support for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. With dual SIM functionality, iPhone users will be able to use two phone numbers to make and receive phone calls, and send and receive SMS and MMS.

The beta release has also revealed a new device identifier for 'iPad2018Fall' indicating that Apple still plans to release new iPad models before the year ends. While Apple has already released a 2018 iPad, rumors suggest the company is working on a Pro model with Face ID support. With iOS 12.1 adding support for face-unlocking in landscape mode, this further fuels the possible iPad Pro unveiling alongside the iOS 12.1 final release.

iOS 12.1 beta 1 can be downloaded as an IPSW link from developer.apple.com or directly as an OTA update from Settings > General > Software Update on your device.
