Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on Verizon receive July Android security update, improved call quality and more

Verizon is pushing out the July Android security update for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Samsung Galaxy S9+ on its network. Besides the security patches, the update also brings a few bug fixes and improvements to the handsets.

The primary goal of the update is to add all the security patches which were a part of the July Android security update. However, it also contains multiple bug fixes and improvements to the overall voice quality on calls.

Among the fixes, Samsung has addressed the issue which caused the phone to reboot when the user unlocks the device using the iris scanner. Samsung has also fixed the issue with causes inter-carrier video calls to fail, and the bug that prevented outgoing calls from connecting under certain conditions.

The update is being pushed out over-the-air, and should arrive in waves. This means that it may take a couple of days before you get a notification for the update. Once you get the OTA notification, make sure your battery is fully charged, and that you are connected to a strong Wi-Fi or Verizon cellular signal before initiating the update. The Galaxy S9 gets the G960USQU3ARG4 software version, while the Galaxy S9+ gets the G965USQU3ARG4 software version.
