Oppo R17 officially announced

The Oppo R17 was officially unveiled today by its manufacturer as the first smartphone to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chip and Corning's Gorilla Glass 6. The handset also features a new notch design and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The handset features a 6.4 inch FHD+ display with a 1080 x 2280 pixel resolution which results in a 91.5% aspect ratio. The highlight of the display is its in-display fingerprint sensor. The Gorilla Glass 6 protection included on the display is said to be as strong as Gorilla Glass 5 with the added ability of withstanding more drops from greater heights than its predecessor.

Oppo has included a 16MP + 5MP dual camera setup on the rear with LED flash. The front sports a massive 25MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture for selfies. The 3500mAh battery with Oppo's VOOC charging technology which is said to allow 2 hours of talk time with a quick five-minute charge. You get USB Type-C connectivity and a 3.5mm headphone port for audiophiles.

The Oppo R17 is powered by a Snapdragon 670 chipset, which is based on the 10nm process and packs eight Kryo 360 cores. The chipset includes Adreno 615 graphics, a Snapdragon X12 LTE modem and comes with AI capabilities similar to those found on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

The handset is set to be released on August 18, and potential customers can reserve the device now. However, Oppo hasnt unveiled the official price or global availability just yet. With what looks like a quality smartphone which features a powerful processor, fast charging and tough display we really hope to see the Oppo R17 venture outside of the Chinese market.
