WhatsApp releases group voice and video calling

Earlier this year, WhatsApp announced that will be rolling out group voice and video calling functionality. Now WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp for iOS have been updated with group calling support for up to four people simultaneously.

In order to activate group calling, the user will have to initiate a one-on-one call and click the 'add participants' button on the top right corner.

With over 1.5 billion users, WhatsApp likely has its target set on Skype and we could see the four person limit increased when the Windows and Mac versions of WhatsApp receive the group call functionality.

WhatsApp users spend over 2 billion minutes per day on calls. The new group calls feature is end-to-end encrypted and designed to work on low-bandwidth 2G and 3G networks.

This is great for countries like India, where WhatsApp boasts over 250 million users, of whome an overwhelming majority rely on mobile data.

The updated version of WhatsApp is now rolling out globally, and should be available on the App Store and Google Play Store shortly. You can download the latest version directly on your device or by using the following links
