Motorola Moto G5 Plus receives Android 8.1 Oreo soak test, final build coming soon

Motorola Moto G5 Plus receives Android 8.1 Oreo soak test

Motorola has kicked off a soak test of Android 8.1 Oreo on the in Brazil. In order to participate in the early release, you will have to enroll in Motorola's Android beta program. The 1GB update file is made available to select Moto G5 Plus users, most likely a small number, for testing purposes.

While it is not clear how far along the beta is, and how soon the final update will be arriving globally for all Moto G5 Plus units, we do have an official change-log.

As per Motorola's release notes, Android 8.1 Oreo brings “many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved data saver and battery features, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements.”

While the change-log suggests that the update includes the Android June security patch, it will more that likely be released with the newer July security patch when it lands in its final form. If the final version is delayed further, we will likely see an even newer version of the Android security patch included with the release.
