Apple iOS 8.4 now available for download

Today Apple officially released iOS 8.4 for all supported iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices. The new update follows iOS 8.3 which was released in April, and comes months before iOS 9 is released this fall. While Apple has continued its work on fixing bugs and tweaking iOS 8.4, its main highlight is the inclusion of its all-new Music app with Apple Music support.

Apple Music was first announced at WWDC, and is a subscription based music streaming service which lets you stream from a catalog of 30 million songs for $9.99 a month or $14.99 for family plan which you can share with up to six people. A free trial is available which lets you try the service free for 3-months.

Apple Music is built into the new iOS music app, and includes an “always on” free 24/7 radio station called Beats 1 as well as a unique social media platform that allows consumers to connect with artists and content creators in a manner that we haven’t previously seen from a streaming service.

Besides Apple Music, the iOS 8.4 update also offers various other bug fixes and performance improvements, with Apple's focus on polishing up iOS for all its supported devices. Among the fixes, Apple has also addressed the bug that caused the Messaging app to crash.

As usual, the update is available OTA (over-the-air) and can be downloaded through the Setting > General > Software Update. You can also download the update file through iTunes, or manually download the IPSW file and install it using iTunes.

Apple iOS 8.4 Jailbreak

Last week, we had the TaiG team release a jailbreak with support for users running iOS 8.3 on their devices. With today's release of iOS 8.4 and the upcoming release of iOS 9, we expect that the jailbreak developers will have to go back to the drawing boards to cook up an update to their tools.

Fortunately early reports suggest that the TaiG employed exploits may still be usable in the beta versions of iOS 8.4 and even iOS 9. Still there is a good chance that Apple will patch these patch these security holes, and we wont know the status of the iOS 8.4 jailbreak until the TaiG team have had a look at the final release.

This being said, users who have jailbroken their iOS devices using TaiG 2.x are advised to stay clear of updating to iOS 8.4 until we have further information on the status of its jailbreak.
