Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint receives Android 5.0 Lollipop

Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint receives Android 5.0 LollipopThe Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint is now receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. AT&T starting rolling out the Lollipop update for their Galaxy S4 around a month ago, while Verizon started updating its variant of the Galaxy S4 a few weeks ago. Now Sprint has announced that the OTA update is rolling out to its Spark and non-Spark variant of the handset.

The Spark-enabled version of the handset will be updated to software version L720TVPUCOD2, while the one that lacks Spark compatibility will be updated to software version L720VPUGOD2. The only notable difference between the two software versions is that the Sprint Spark flavour of the Galaxy S4 will also include the new Factory Reset Protection feature.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring several new features and improvements to the Galaxy S4, including a new Material Design inspired TouchWiz user interface, a new lockscreen, Priority Mode notifications, a new multitasking screen, as well as the standard range of bug fixes and performance improvements.

As with all OTA updates, expect this one to be released in stages. So it may be a few days before your Sprint Galaxy S4 will be able to enjoy what Lollipop has to offer. You can however manually check for the update's availability by going to Settings > More > System Update > Update Samsung Software > Check Now. Keep in mind however, that this is not a required step, as the handset will automatically check for updates once every few hours.
