Apple Watch receives Watch OS 1.0.1 update

The Apple Watch has received it first update, which brings Watch OS to version 1.0.1 on the device. The update brings various bug fixes, while improving the overall performance of some features such as Siri on the timepiece.

Following the update to Watch OS 1.0.1, the Apple Watch will be able to calculate how many calories you've burned while rowing or after a strenuous session of indoor cycling. The update also allows Apple Watch to measure the distance or paces you've traveled while walking, or running outdoors.

Watch OS 1.0.1 also brings support for a number of languages allowing the Apple Watch to speak in Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Thai, and Turkish. The device was recently released on April 24th in nine countries.

You will be able to install the update on your Apple Watch through your iPhone through the Apple Watch companion app.
  1. Launch Apple Watch companion app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on My Watch tab, and then navigate to General > Software Update.
  3. Now wait for the app to find new OTA update for your Apple Watch. If there’s new update available, it will show up, as shown in the screenshot below. If your Apple Watch is already on the latest version, you will see “Your software is up to date.” message.
  4. Now tap on Download and Install, followed by a tap on Agree to accept new Terms and Conditions.
  5. Now the new update will start downloading on your Apple Watch.
  6. Once the update is downloaded, the process of ‘Installing on Apple Watch’ will automatically begin. At this point you will see Apple boot logo on your Watch with circular progress bar indicating the installation progress.
Once that is complete, the Watch will reboot automatically and then there will be a another progress bar preparing the new newly installed update ready for use. Once that is complete, Watch will reboot again and this time straight into watch face.
