Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for Verizon receives Android 5.0 Lollipop

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for Verizon Wireless is now receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. According to Verizon, the update includes the new "complex animations and 3D views" of Material Design.

You also get the new "Recent Apps" menu, the 64-Bit ART compiler (which opens apps faster), and the "Floating Action" button used to write a new text message or email, or to add a new contact or calendar event. Samsung's TouchWiz interface has also been updated with Material Design elements.

The update is being pushed out OTA (over-the-air) and in stages, so it may be a few days before it is available for your handset. You should get a notification when the update is available for download, but you can try manually checking for it by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check for Updates.

The Android 5.0 update for the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 weighs in at 117MB, and users are requested to connect to a reliable Wi-Fi connection when downloading and installing it to avoid unnecessary data charges.. The carrier says that it will take 8 minutes to prepare your device for the update, and another 14 minutes to install the update on your Note 3. Make sure your battery is appropriately (at least 50%) charged before installing the update. You will need 1.7GB of free space to update your phone, and you will be told to clear more space if required.
