Motorola Moto G Google Play edition receives Android 5.1 update

Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition receives Android 5.1 LollipopWhile manufacturers are still working on bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to their devices, Google has started rolling out the new Android 5.1 update to its Nexus devices. Now it looks like the Google Play Edition (GPe) handsets are also getting some attention as the Motorola Moto G GPe has started receiving the update.

Android 5.1 update for Moto G
The Moto G is the first GPe device to receive the Android 5.1 update, which is reportedly around 171MB in size and brings the LM47M build number. With the Android 5.1 update you get longer battery life, improvements to the 64-bit ART compiler, better RAM management and improvements to system stability. With improved security in Android 5.1, a phone that is lost or stolen will remain unable to run without the owner entering his/her Google account information, even if the phone is factory reset.

You will receive a notification when the update is available for your device, at which point you are advised to connect to WiFi to preserve your data allowance. It is also recommended to ensure your battery is appropriately (at least 50%) charged before installing the update. Since such updates are rolled out in stages, it may be a couple of days before it is available for your handset.

The Motorola Moto G is the company's mid-range offering which features a 4.5 inch HD touch display, 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear camera, a 1.2MP front facing camera and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
