The Microsoft Lumia 640 and the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL smartphones are now available for purchase. The first markets to get their hands on these mid-range handsets will be India and the UK.
The Lumia 640 features a 5 inch 720p display, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 8MP rear camera, 1MP front camera, a 2500mAh battery and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. The handset will cost INR 11,999 (around $192) for the Indian market and has been priced at £169.99 in the UK.
The Lumia 640 XL, which is larger than the Lumia 640, features a 5.7 inch 720p display, 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, an 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, a 3000mAh battery and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. Indian customers will be able to purchase the Lumia 640 XL for INR 15799 (around $254).
Both handsets run the latest version of Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim, and will be updated to Windows 10 sometime this summer.
In the U.S., AT&T has confirmed that they will be offering both the Lumia 640 and the Lumia 640 XL to their customers. The latter may remain an AT&T exclusive, while the Lumia 640 will also be offered by T-Mobile.
