HTC One M8 Google Play edition receives Android 5.1 update

HTC One M8 Google Play edition receives Android 5.1 updateWith many Nexus devices already receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, Google has shifted its focus to its Google Play edition (GPe) stable. Last week we saw the Motorola Moto G GPe receive the update, followed by the LG G Pad 8.3 GPe and today the HTC One M8 Google Play edition has started to receive the latest version of Android.

Android 5.1 update on HTC One M8 GPeThe Android 5.1 update is 244.2MB file, and continues to bring improvements originally improved in Lollipop. The battery life has been further enhanced, along with the 64-bit ART compiler which should help your apps open faster. With the update, lost and stolen phones will not run unless the handset's owner types in his Google password. That goes even for phones that have been factory reset. Android 5.1 also adds stability to your device and improves RAM management. There are also some changes to animation and in the way the phone takes care of notification interruptions.

Like past Android updates, expect Android 5.1 to be rolled out in stages. This means you may have to wait a few days before you receive the OTA (over-the-air) update notification. Once you are notified of the update availability, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to avoid unnecessary data charges, and have your battery appropriately (at least 50%) charged.
