Xiaomi Redmi 2A officially announced to celebrate company's fifth birthday

Xiaomi, the so-called Apple of China has unveiled a new device to commemorate its fifth birthday. which is on April 6. The handset known as the Xiaomi Redmi 2A, is a toned-down variation of the recently-announced Redmi 2, and  joins the company's lineup of affordable entry-level smartphones with an ultra-low starting price of 599 yuan (around $96).

The Redmi 2A features a 4.7 inch display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, 4G LTE connectivity, dual-SIM, a 2200mAh battery and a 1.5GHz quad-core Leadcore L1860C chipset with Mali T628MP2 graphics and 1GB of RAM. The handset comes with Android 4.4.4 pre-installed with the MIUI 6 skin on top.

While the handset has been priced at 599 yuan, Xiaomi is organizing a promotion on April 8, where the device will be offered for only 499 yuan (around $80). Availability will most certainly be limited to the markets that are currently selling Xiaomi's devices on a regular basis.

Besides the Redmi 2A, the company also unveiled the Xiaomi Mi Note Pink Edition. Besides the change in color, the handset offers the same internal hardware, including a 5.7 inch display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, 64GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear camera with OIS, a 4MP front camera, a 3000mAh battery and a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM. The new handset comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed.

The company is also offering a more affordable version  of the Xiaomi Mi Note which comes with 2GB of RAM instead of the regular 3GB. The reduction of RAM allows you to purchase the device for around $270 USD, which is $16 lesser than the usual asking price of $290.

Xiaomi also is promoting a $16 USD smart scale that syncs with the MiFit app using Bluetooth 4.0, and a smart socket priced at $8 USD that features 3 USB charging ports and is said to be childproof. This would be perfect for charging all of your mobile devices.
