Hyperlapse for Windows Phone by Microsoft Research spotted on Windows Phone Store

Late last year, Microsoft Research unveiled that they are working on an advanced video smoothing/stabilization technology, called Hyperlapse. Now an internal beta app has surfaced in Windows Phone Store, hinting beta launch soon.

Hyperlapsing is a technique used in multimedia to string together a collection of photographs or video frames in order to produce a cinematic experience; the technology is also more commonly known as a stop-motion time-lapse.

Microsoft’s Hyperlapse project was meant to remove camera shakes while capturing a video with a smartphone. The project initially started as a way to stabilize GoPro camera output and now the research team is near to its first beta release on Windows Phone.

The developed algorithm uses a 3-step process to produce exceptionally stable videos that play back in a single fluid camera sweep. It scans through hours of video footage, reconstructs the physical path by creating a 3D model, and then render the frames from the novel viewpoints on the optimized path and lastly generate the novel smoothed, time-lapse video by rendering, stitching, and blending appropriately selected source frames for each output frame.

The Hyperlapse Mobile Beta app is currently in internal beta testing. So, its not available for public right now, but you can keep an eye out for the app from Windows Phone Store.
