VAIO Phone officially announced with mid-range specs and high price

VAIO Phone

There have been rumors of a VAIO smartphone circulating since Sony sold their VAIO brand to Japan Industrial Partners. Today the new owner has officially announced the first VAIO Phone.

This mid-range smartphone, features a 5 inch 720p HD display, 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera and a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. You get Android 5.0 Lollipop, with a near stock user experience not weighed down by any customization. In terms of design, you get a very flat, glossy back, curved plastic sides, which VAIO refers to as "simple and stylish".

While one would experience the specifications to translate into an affordable price, the VAIO Phone costs 51,000 yen, which roughly translates to $420. The phone will launch on March 20 in Japan and will most probably remain a local exclusive.
