Sony won't update non Z series devices to Lollipop

Last year, Sony confirmed that it will be bringing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its entire Xperia Z series of devices. Unfortunately, it looks like the company has no plans to update the rest of its on-Xperia Z handsets in its lineup.

According to tweet sent out by the official Sony account, the Android Lollipop update is going to be available "only" for the Xperia Z family. This means that smartphones from 2014 like the Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia C3, Xperia T3, Xperia T2 Ultra, or Xperia E1 will not see updated beyond Android KitKat.

This is quite disappointing, as many of these devices should be technically capable of running Android Lollipop. Companies like Motorola have even updating their entry level Motorola Moto E to the latest version of Android.

This will leave only the newly announced Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, along with the Sony Xperia E4 and the Sony Xperia E4g as the only non-Xperia Z smartphones with Lollipop on board.
