Besides announcing its newest Snapdragon 820 processors, Qualcomm has also unveiled a new fingerprint sensor solution for Snapdragon devices called Sense ID.

Qualcomm Sense ID is a new type of fingerprint recognition technology that uses an ultrasonic sound waves to get an extremely detailed map of your fingerprint. These fingerprint maps will be much more detailed than those captured by capacities fingerprint sensors, like the one on the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

These high resolution scans captured by Sense ID are also great for security, as you can read fine details as low as pores and ridges. Additionally, you can even get a reading when your finger is moist or if it is dirty. The new technology also works through glass and sapphire, meaning that it could be integrated in various places in a phone.

Qualcomm's Sense ID will be first rolled out to devices powered by the Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 425, but its compatibility will spread out to devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400, Snapdragon 600, and Snapdragon 800 series of chips.
