Microsoft reveals minimum hardware requirements for Windows 10 on phones, desktops and tablets

During the WinHEC conference in, China, Microsoft revealed the minimum hardware requirements to successfully boot, run, update and service Windows 10 on phones, desktop and tablets.

On phones, the minimum hardware for Windows 10 is more or less same as the previous Windows Phone 8 hardware specs. The minimum amount of RAM is listed as 512MB, minimum storage required is 4GB, and volume up/down, start, search and back buttons are required for phone that uses a WVGA display.

The 512MB of RAM is actually a comforting fact, as we will likely see the Windows 10 update offered across those affordable Windows 8 handsets with the minimum amount of RAM.

Windows 10 on phones will support screen sizes from 3 inches all the way up to 7.99 inches and requires minimum RAM based on display resolution. For full HD display devices, 2GB RAM is required and for QSXGA (2560 x 2048) displays, 4GB RAM is required. For lower-resolutions such as WVGA (800 x 480) and FWVGA (854 x 480), 512MB is the minimum amount of RAM needed.

Windows 10 hardware requirements for phones

On desktops, you will require a minimum of 16GB internal memory and 1GB RAM to run the 32-bit edition of Windows 10. For the 64-bit version of Windows 10, you will require a minimum of 20GB storage and 2GB RAM. For Tablets, Power and volume up/down buttons are required.

Windows 10 hardware requirements for PCs and Tablets

Windows 10 will arrive this summer and will be offered as a free upgrade to Windows 7 users and above. We expect a wide array of new smartphones, tablets and PCs to also be released alongside the next version of Windows.
