Microsoft Office will be free on devices with 10-inch and smaller displays

Microsoft wants to make Office the number one choice for mobile customers, and has announced that the Office suite will be available for free on devices with a screen size of less than 10 inches.

Kirk Koenigsbauer, the corporate vice president for Office 365 Client Apps and Services at Microsoft, revealed in a blog post that Office suite will be offered for mobile platforms with a freemium model.
Based on our research, we are classifying anything with a screen size of 10.1 inches or less as a true mobile device: You're probably using it on the go, when it’s not practical to use a larger computing device such as a PC or a Mac. You probably aren't using a mouse or a keyboard, instead navigating via touch interface. It’s probably not a “pro” category tablet that is used for design or presentations.
The company is going to classify anything with a screen size of 10.1 inches or lower as a true mobile device and will offer core editing and viewing experiences for free. Users can opt for the premium, subscription features like authoring, security, and reliability-all part of the Office 365 suite, and not the individual apps.

Office apps will be available across Windows, Android and iOS devices with screen size of 10.1 inches or less and will allow users to create new documents, edit, and view them for free. The premium subscription benefits which also include 1TB of OneDrive storage, 60 minutes of free worldwide Skype calls and more robust editing tools come with the full Office 365 suite.
