Microsoft Lumia 640 XL

Microsoft continues its trend of releasing affordable devices, with the announcement of the large screened Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, a larger screened version of the similarly affordable Microsoft Lumia 640. Both handsets were unveiled during an event Microsoft hosted during the Mobile World Congress.

The Lumia 640 XL features a 5.7 inch display compared to the 5 inch display on the Lumia 640, but retains the 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. You get 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 3000mAh battery and a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. The handset will be available in single and dual SIM versions with both a 3G model and 4G LTE models to choose from, including a dual-SIM LTE device.

The 13 megapixel camera on the rear has an 1/3" sensor and f/2.0 lens, and features dynamic flash and auto HDR. The 5 megapixel front camera has a wide-angle lens, which should be useful for taking selfies.

On the software front you get Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 with Lumia Denim, and an update to Windows 10 will arrive after it is released later this year. You also get all the Microsoft services like OneDrive, Skype and Cortana, including 1 year of Office 365.

The Lumia 640 XL will be released this April, and will be available in multiple new markets. The pricing of the handset is as follows:
  • Lumia 640 with 3G - $210 (189 euro)
  • Lumia 640 with 4G LTE - $245 (219 euro) for 4G LTE version
The handset will be available in a range of colors including, cyan, orange, black and white.
